Gordon Campbell Concert Jan 29, 2012

E-mail Print PDF

A concert that merits an encore

Just a note for the folks who have been bowled over by the excellence of the Sunday concerts that Gordon Campbell has been bringing to Mazatlan: It’s now possible to obtain tickets for the third concert in the series (of four) this Sunday Jan. 29 at noon.

Since that concert is to be played in the Antonio Haas Mansion, where space will permit just 200 listeners, ticket sales were limited. But demand has been so great that Campbell has elected to play the concert twice. So while the performance scheduled for 12:00 noon is sold out, music livers can now buy tickets for the encore performance at 5:00 p.m.

Campbell, the American-born director of the Sinaloa Symphony Orchestra of the Arts (OSSLA), will play the French horn at the two Jan. 29 concerts. He will be accompanied by Roberto Revueltas, solo violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra at Bellas Artes in Mexico City, and by Joel Juan Qui, the brilliant Culiacan-born pianist who now resides in Guadalajara, in a program of Beethoven and Brahms.

The fourth and final concert at noon on Feb. 5 moves back to the Angela Peralta Theater and will be played by a group of select musicians from the OSSLA. They will play Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” and Haydn’s “Farewell Symphony,” a piece in which musicians leave the stage one by one until only two remain to sound the final notes.

Tickets are available at the Angela Peralta Box Office, at the CULTURA offices on Aleman near the corner of Belisario Dominguez, and at Carnaval ticket booths in the Gran Plaza and the Plazuela Machado. They cost 200 pesos for the special trio on Sunday Jan. 29 and 150 pesos for the chamber group on Sunday Feb. 5.
